”The terrace is the place where we spend the most time at the cottage. Because of that, it's important that it is of high quality, durable and easy to maintain. This UPM ProFi Deck composite terrace is fantastic in many ways. In addition to being easy to maintain and durable, it's extremely comfortable even for bare feet – it's not slippery and has no splinters, like a traditional wooden terrace! The terrace material is sealed against possible oil splashes, so you can cook and grill on the terrace,” says Metti.
For the Forssell family, the cottage is a place to retire to with friends and family to relax. Alongside busy urban living, it's nice, from time to time, to get to unwind in the lap of nature by the sea. Metti loves living in the city, but sometimes she notices that she misses her own yard and terrace where she could leave the children to play without a worry or spend some time by herself. The cottage offers an opportunity for this.
”A few years ago we did a cottage renovation and also revamped the yard area. One of the most important alteration wishes was to construct as many terrace areas in as many locations as possible. We cook, eat, play footy, build huts, work and sit around on the terrace – anything whatsoever. When we were choosing a terrace, what was of primary importance to us was the durability of the terrace material, its comfort of use and, above all, that it was easy to maintain," says Metti.
The UPM ProFi Deck 150 terrace is really easy to take care of as it only needs easy regular cleaning.
”For example, we haven't done anything to the terrace during the last two years . In the autumn we've swept the leaves from the terrace, but that's all!” comments Metti.
An ecological alternative
The UPM ProFi composite boards are an ecological alternative as a terrace material. The UPM ProFi Deck 150 terrace material contains 55% recycled material. The UPM ProFi Piazza, with a natural and wood-like surface, contains even more recycled material, a full 75%. A guarantee of as long as 25 years is given for this material. European plastic and paper waste is utilised in the products. The composite materials are completely non-toxic, and at the end of their life they can be easily disposed of along with domestic and energy waste and any construction left-over pieces.
”A glazed terrace allows it to be used all the way through from early spring to late in the autumn. Indeed, the glazed terrace is like a second living room for us, so it was absolutely vital to choose a terrace material that is wonderfully soft and feels nice, even under your bare feet. At ours, we also dine a lot on the glazed terrace, so the water-repellent surface of the terrace board has proved very practical in this sense as well. The floor is easy to clean and keep looking tidy.”
”I really recommend the UPM ProFi Deck to everyone who is planning to build a terrace. The material is high-quality, convenient and brilliantly suits many different uses. It has been great to notice that this terrace really keeps its beautiful appearance without any special maintenance. In addition to these excellent characteristics, the ecological nature of the UPM ProFi composite board is also a really big plus.”
