For traditionalists - Subconstruction with classical timber joist

After making the decision to use UPM ProFi decking as the better solution than wood, also thinking about aluminium or composite as a subconstruction material makes sense. Of course you can use timber joists, but why should you do, when other options do not rot, warp, splinter and even perform better in all weathers?

When using timber subconstruction, make sure that you

  • Use timber joists with durability class 1 according to EN 350.
  • Follow the local building regulations and the generally accepted codes of practice.
  • Ensure that the timber joists are not in direct ground contact, eg. use rubber pads or UPM ProFi Foot.
  • Connect the timber joists to form a rigid framework with cross-members.
